Stonewall National Museum, Archives, & Library (SNMAL) operates one of the leading gay archives in America and the Stonewall Library which remains the largest LGBTQ+ collection in the world. Stonewall presents an annual series of exhibitions, programs, workshops, and discussions with a goal to connect members of our community with a wide variety of ideas and perspectives.
Bayard Rustin at the Crossroads celebrates the life of Bayard Rustin, a brilliant strategist, openly gay Black activist, and key architect of the Civil Rights Movement.
As a trusted advisor to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rustin helped shape the movement’s nonviolent philosophy and organized the historic 1963 March on Washington. Despite facing discrimination for his sexuality, Rustin remained a steadfast advocate for justice, bridging the fight for racial equality with the emerging LGBTQ+ rights movement.
This exhibition explores his enduring legacy and invites reflection on the intersections of identity, courage, and social change.
